What will the consultation and treatment cost?

Since all patients are different, an initial examination must be completed by your Periodontist to determine the complexity of the problem.

Since all patients are different, an initial examination must be completed by your Periodontist to determine the complexity of the problem. Based on that, a treatment plan is made, with a fee for the proposed treatment. The cost for the initial 30min periodontal or implant consultation is $190. That includes the examination and periodontal charting (measuring the gum pocket depths). Please bring with you or ask your dentist to forward any relevant x-rays. For periodontal consultation, an OPG from the last 18 months is sufficient and required. For implant consultation, a CBCT is necessary. If not available, required x-rays can be taken at the time of the consultation at a small cost.

  • Non-surgical treatment for quadrant (quarter of mouth)

Placement of implants

  • from straightforward simple implant, to a complex two-stage surgery involving grafting

FAQs

Your healthfund will probably cover a portion of your initial consult. You can inquire with them about the rebate on item numbers 016 (consultation by referral) and 221 (periodontal charting). Based on the item codes in your treatment plan, which will be provided upon initial consultation, you would be able to work out your rebates for treatment, depending on your fund and level of cover.

We are not aware of any registered specialist in South Australia who is a preferred provider of any of the healthfunds. Having said that, rebates for a treatment done by a specialist are usually higher than for general dentists.
